notes: LDS general conference April 2011




I am so grateful for a living prophet and that he speaks to us, I am so grateful for conference and the guidance and direction I recieve from it. These are my thoughts, notes, and impressions from this conference. I bear testimony that the things talked about by messengers of God at this Conference are true and I encourage anyone interested to go and listen, read, or watch the talks and learn and from them themselves (http://www.lds.org/). I know that Christ is my savior that he lived and atoned for me.
President Monson:
 If you can make a contribution to the general missionary fund of the church.
L. Tom Perry:
 Be thou an example of the believers
 The 7th day is the Sabbath – a day of worship
 away from the distractions of the world gave the sacrament
 ye shall always remember me – sacrament
 it is so important that we attend church to partake of the sacrament, to worship and to remember our saviors
Jean A. Stevens:
 children are a key to help us become like the savior
 what qualities do children have that we need:
o full of faith
o receptive to the spirit
o first to love
o first to forgive
 Christ took their little children one by one, behold our children, see them and embrace them
 Home is where we learn and grow together
Walter F. Gonzalez:
 He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, they shall see the light
o Loving people
o Make and keep sacred covenants
 The way we treat others reflects how we follow Christ.
 The savior was the example – he was baptized
 The power of our covenants is powerful enough to withstand ANY challenge
Kent F. Richards
 Christ suffered all the pain of the world when we are suffering any pain we should turn to Christ and we will see and feel relief
 In him we can find rest in our souls
 Daddy “all the children in the ICU have angels helping them.”
Quentin L. Cook
 Divine qualities in women
 Unwavering faith in the restored gospel
 Caring for the members and non members and inactive
 It is easier to keep someone at church than it is to get them to come back… keep them.
Henry B. Eyring:
 Our heavenly father hears and answers prayers
 The lord provides ways through his disciples to provide for those in need
 The lord sends us messages an sympathy to help others
 Take opportunities to teach our children the gospel to strengthen our own testimonies and to serve
 Spend less than we earn = surplus
 Draw your family into work with you
 Find those who need help and help them – seize the opportunities to lift the hands that hang down
Boyd K. Packer:
 We need to refer to ourselves as members of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Later Day Saints
 Every ordinance is done in the name of Jesus Christ
 The word of wisdom was given long before the health problems were revealed
 Everyone is tested this is the purpose of mortal life – we can and must resist temptation
 If you have been offended forgive forget and leave it alone
Russell M. Nelson:
 Death is part of life, we die to live again
 We must be ready to meet God
 Focus our faith on our savior Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father
Richard J. Maynes:
 We are all part of a large eternal family, Satan is making an attack on the family
 Children deserve a loving father and mother and to grow up in a Christ centered home (weekly FHE, daily prayer and scripture study)
 Create righteous traditions in our homes, parents are held accountable on how we raised our children
 Our homes can truly feel like heaven on earth
Cecil O. Samuelson:
 To gain a testimony pray sincerely and with faith and you will receive a testimony
Dallin H. Oaks:
 Desire, labor, and faith are usually required for God to grant us blessings
 All men will be judged on the desires of our hearts, and our works
 What we desire over time will eventually be what we become
M. Russell Ballard:
 The gospel of Jesus Christ is simple, we should try to keep our lives simple and focused on things that matter most
 What things in our life bring simplicity and happiness:
o Love the lord with all thy heart, soul and mind
o Love thy neighbor as thyself
 We are able to love and serve those around us and make good choices as we love Christ, we do what he would do
Deiter F. Uchdorf:
 God will hear and answer our prayers, they sometimes come through other people
 God does notice us and watch over us, but it is through other people that God usually helps us
 Sharing the gospel is glad news
 If we live according to our beliefs, people will notice: “preach the gospel at all times, if necessary use words”
Paul V. Johnson:
 Personal growth is an outcome to personal trial
 Our life will provide us with just as many trial as we need
 We will be lifted up in our trials
H. David Burton:
 We have to care for each other here on earth – temporally
 Ward counsel is such a great way I can help the people in my branch
Silvia Allred:
 Love one another and serve one another
 Relief society is to help the people of the branch and to provide relief
 Heavenly father knows us individually, knows our needs and will provide for us
David A. Bednar:
 Sincere desire and prayer bring the spirit of revelation into our lives
 Faith and fear do not coexist
President Thomas S. Monson
 Temples will be available to all the members that is the goal
 We (Jordan and I) need to be going to the temple at least once a month
 Sacrifice is always involved with building and attending the temple – nothing is to big of a problem to keep us from the temple
 There is no more important goal than going to the temple
 Every bedroom in the house should have a picture of the temple
 Life beyond the grave is real and certain as life is on earth
Elder Richard G. Scott:
 As long as we live worthily we are sealed to our families forever
 Satan is trying to hurt our families
 The greatest part of life is family – play with your kids, have fun with your spouse, keep your covenants = happiness
 Family prayer, family scripture study, family home evening, family counsel, family temple trip once a month
 Pure love is a power for good, righteous love is the greatest love for your family
 Marriage is wonderful
D. Todd Christopherson:
 We will be judged on what we will become
 Divine chastising:
o Persuade us to repent
o To refine us
o Redirect our course
 Answers to prayers come in many ways
 We need to strive to meet God’s high expectations
Carl B. Pratt:
 We need to pay our tithing = we are blessed when we keep the commandments
 We are all indebted to the lord
Lynn G. Robins:
 We need to be what we are supposed to be
 We are never done being a good wife, parents, sisters, daughters ( we are never done being Christ like)
 What attributes will change behavior – that is how we need to teach our children
 Should not discipline children in anger
 Ask the child what they learned – give the spirit a chance to teach
 Our children are Gods children = treat them as such, help them live up to their potential
 Teach attributes (example: instead of saying good job on getting good grades , say good job on working hard and being diligent.)
Benjamin D. Hoyos:
 We will become “saints” by living gospel principles
C. Scott Grow:
 The atonement is for everyone
 When we sin Satan tells us we are lost
Jeffery R. Holland:
 God not only lives but he speaks through the holy spirit, through prophets and apostles
 Mortal messengers with angelic messages = prophets and apostles all those who strive to do the lords will in their callings
President Thomas S. Monson:
 Lets read and study these messages
 Christ passed beneath all things that he may save all things

Those were great notes! As I watch General Conference I always like to have a question in my mind of what I am searching for. Taking notes helps so much with that too! If I take notes then they will all tie back into what I am asking the Lord about. Thank you so much for sharing this great post. I love seeing other LDS members who are doing so well.
